Unconfirmed GTA VI PS5 Pro 60 FPS Claim: What the Source Actually Supports

Rumor status: Low confidence. A March 2025 social-media post from the account Detective Seeds claimed that GTA VI had been running at 60 frames per second while being optimized for PlayStation 5 Pro. The post did not include footage, technical documentation, named developers, or confirmation from Rockstar Games or Sony. It remains an unverified claim—not a confirmed GTA VI performance target.

The rumor keeps resurfacing because it combines two things players want to hear: a major open-world Rockstar game at 60 FPS and a tangible reason to own Sony’s more powerful console. That is understandable. But there is a big gap between an alleged internal test result and a guaranteed retail performance mode.

What the claim actually says

The original claim was brief: GTA VI was reportedly hitting 60 FPS on PS5 Pro during optimization. It did not specify whether that meant a stable 60 FPS in normal gameplay, a performance mode with visual trade-offs, a limited test scene, or an unfinished build with reduced settings.

Those missing details matter. A modern open-world game can run at very different frame rates depending on location, time of day, weather, traffic density, combat effects, resolution, ray-tracing settings, and whether the developer is profiling a controlled test rather than a busy city sequence.

There is also no indication that the source had direct access to Rockstar’s build, Sony’s developer materials, or a person working on GTA VI performance optimization. A claim can be plausible without being sourced well enough to report as likely.

What Rockstar has officially confirmed

Rockstar’s official GTA VI page confirms the game for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It does not announce a PS5 Pro mode, a 60 FPS mode, a resolution target, ray-tracing settings, or a frame-rate guarantee for any console.

Rockstar also stated that Trailer 2 was captured in-game on PlayStation 5. That is useful context: it demonstrates that the studio was willing to show console-captured material. It does not tell us the trailer’s output frame rate, whether it was running on a standard PS5 or PS5 Pro, or what settings and capture tools were involved.

Sony has discussed the PS5 Pro’s upgraded GPU, advanced ray tracing, and PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution technology in its own hardware messaging. Those features can give developers more options, but they do not automatically turn a 30 FPS game into a 60 FPS game. Each studio still chooses how to spend the available performance budget.

Why 60 FPS is more complicated than “more GPU power”

PS5 Pro could potentially help GTA VI look cleaner or run more smoothly than the standard PS5. That is a reasonable expectation for a mid-generation console upgrade. The difficult question is whether it can sustain 60 FPS in a game built around a dense, highly simulated open world.

Frame rate is often constrained by more than graphics. At 60 FPS, the game has roughly half the time per frame that it has at 30 FPS. The CPU must keep up with AI behavior, pedestrians, vehicle traffic, physics, animation, streaming world assets, mission logic, and online systems. In a Rockstar-scale city, those systems are not small background tasks.

What PS5 Pro improvements could realistically support

  • Higher image quality at an existing frame-rate target.
  • Better ray-tracing settings or more stable ray-traced effects.
  • Higher internal resolution through improved upscaling.
  • Fewer frame-rate drops in demanding scenes.
  • A separate performance mode, if Rockstar decides the visual and simulation compromises are worthwhile.

That final point is important. A 60 FPS mode is possible in principle, but it is a product decision as well as a technical one. Rockstar could prioritize visual density and consistency at 30 FPS, offer multiple modes, or take a different approach altogether. Until the studio provides specifications, treating any one outcome as settled is premature.

Rumor credibility

Confidence level: Low.

The account behind the claim did not provide verifiable evidence, and the claim has not been independently corroborated by Rockstar, Sony, Take-Two Interactive, or established reporting with attributable sourcing. The source’s alleged access cannot be checked from the post itself.

There is no inherent contradiction in the idea that Rockstar could be testing GTA VI at 60 FPS on PS5 Pro. Developers test many configurations, and performance work changes throughout production. However, plausibility is not proof. A test build, if one existed, would not confirm that the feature will ship, remain stable across the whole game, or be available at launch.

For now, the accurate wording is simple: someone claimed GTA VI was running at 60 FPS on PS5 Pro, but the claim is unsupported by public evidence and has not been officially confirmed.

What this means for PC players, modders, and FiveM communities

PC players should not use this rumor as a guide for upgrade plans. A hypothetical PS5 Pro performance mode would not reveal GTA VI’s future PC requirements, graphics settings, or CPU needs. Rockstar has not announced a PC version or provided PC technical specifications.

For future modders and server owners, the broader lesson is familiar: raw frame rate is only one part of a live game’s performance story. Busy multiplayer environments can add script load, streaming pressure, custom vehicles, interiors, UI resources, and player-created systems on top of the base game. Even if a 60 FPS console mode eventually appears, it would not automatically establish a safe performance baseline for future GTA VI multiplayer projects.

The sensible move is to wait for official platform details and real-world testing. In the meantime, GTA V and FiveM creators can keep building good habits around asset budgets, streaming discipline, profiling, and version control—the work that matters regardless of what number appears in a console performance menu.

Watch for specs, not reposts

A genuine update would be easy to recognize. Rockstar, PlayStation, or a platform store listing would identify PS5 Pro support, performance modes, or technical features directly. Until that happens, cropped screenshots, reposted “insider” captions, and claims without evidence should stay in the rumor column.
