Rumor status: Low confidence. A set of GTA VI claims circulated by the X account GameRoll in May 2025 includes a particularly attention-grabbing detail: GTA VI’s main story will reportedly last around 75 hours and be split into five chapters. The account presented the information as coming from a source, but supplied no document, gameplay material, named developer, or independently verifiable evidence.
That means the reported runtime is not official, not corroborated, and not something players should treat as a feature list. Rockstar Games has announced GTA VI, its setting, its lead characters, and its current release date, but it has not published a campaign length, mission count, or chapter structure on the official GTA VI page.
The claim is still worth examining because campaign-length rumors can quickly become accepted as fact once they are repeated in videos, social posts, and search results. A number with no clear definition is especially easy to overinterpret.
What GameRoll reportedly claimed
In posts shared around Rockstar’s Trailer 2 rollout in May 2025, GameRoll said GTA VI would have a roughly 75-hour main story and five chapters. The account also circulated several other alleged gameplay and structure details. This article focuses only on the campaign-length and chapter-count claim.
Even if the number was reported accurately by reposts, it leaves the important questions unanswered:
- Does “75 hours” mean critical-path story missions only?
- Does it include required travel, side activities, minigames, or optional heists?
- Is it an estimate from a work-in-progress build rather than a final design target?
- Does “five chapters” describe traditional chapters, broad acts, or internal development milestones?
Those distinctions matter. A player who rushes missions, a player who explores every activity, and a player who retries difficult encounters can finish the same game with wildly different clock times. In an open-world Rockstar game, a single runtime figure is rarely very useful without a definition.
What Rockstar has actually confirmed
Rockstar’s official GTA VI materials identify Jason and Lucia as the central protagonists and confirm that the game is set in the state of Leonida, including Vice City and surrounding areas. Rockstar has also published official character and location information alongside its trailers.
It has not confirmed five story chapters. It has not announced a 75-hour campaign. It has not explained whether its mission structure will resemble GTA V’s alternating-protagonist format, Red Dead Redemption 2’s chapter framework, or something new.
This absence does not disprove GameRoll’s claim. Developers normally do not reveal a precise main-story length this far ahead, and final pacing can change substantially during production. But the absence means there is no official material that supports the figure either.
Why runtime rumors are difficult to verify
Game development is not a stopwatch running toward one fixed answer. Missions get rewritten, cut, merged, expanded, or moved into optional content. Voice recording and performance capture can be completed before a mission is fully implemented; meanwhile, a nearly finished mission can later be removed because it no longer fits the pacing.
That is especially relevant to a game as large as GTA VI. A source could potentially see an internal planning document, an old build, or a list of missions and still be unable to give a reliable final runtime. A “75-hour story” could also be a rounded estimate passed through several people before reaching a social-media account.
There is also a basic reporting problem: no independent outlet has publicly substantiated this specific figure. A claim being quoted by multiple websites is not corroboration if every article ultimately traces back to the same anonymous-source post.
Rumor credibility
Classification: Low confidence.
The claim comes from an identifiable GTA-focused account rather than a totally source-free screenshot, which is better than the usual anonymous repost cycle. GameRoll has also been credited by community members for sharing some details that later resembled official GTA VI information. However, a partial or disputed track record does not verify every later claim, particularly a highly specific one such as campaign duration.
The core weakness is simple: there is no underlying evidence available for readers to assess. No primary document has been published, no gameplay footage establishes the chapter count, and no separate credible reporting has confirmed the 75-hour estimate. Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive have not commented on it.
For now, the responsible reading is that this is an unverified report from a source claiming access to information, not a reliable measure of GTA VI’s final size.
Why the five-chapter detail should not be ignored—or assumed
The chapter portion of the rumor is more plausible on a purely structural level than a precise hour count. Rockstar has used chapters prominently in Red Dead Redemption 2, and a multi-act structure would make sense for a dual-protagonist crime story. That is analysis, though, not evidence.
GTA V did not present its campaign to players as five conventional chapters. Its progression was organized around missions, character switches, businesses, properties, and major set pieces. GTA VI could adopt a visible chapter system, use hidden acts for pacing, or avoid the label entirely. Until Rockstar shows an in-game mission menu or directly explains the story format, all three remain possible.
It is also possible for a development team to use “chapters” internally while players see something completely different in the finished game. Internal vocabulary is not always player-facing design.
What a 75-hour campaign could mean for PC players and future creators
If this report eventually proves accurate, the practical takeaway would not be that GTA VI is automatically better or bigger than previous Rockstar games. Length alone says little about mission variety, replayability, pacing, or technical quality. A long campaign can be brilliant, but it can also be padded; a shorter one can still support years of exploration and community creativity.
For future PC players and mod creators, a larger story footprint could potentially mean more locations, systems, characters, and mission spaces to understand. It could also mean a larger install, more demanding asset streaming, and more moving pieces for any eventual modding ecosystem. None of those outcomes follow automatically from one unverified runtime number.
FiveM communities should be especially careful not to build roadmaps around this rumor. A purported campaign structure does not establish anything about GTA VI multiplayer tools, server hosting, scripting access, compatibility, or official support. Those questions remain separate and unconfirmed.
How to follow GTA VI rumors without getting played
A good rule is to ask where a detail began. If the answer is an anonymous post, a cropped image, or an article quoting another article, the claim has not earned much confidence. For a rumor like this, watch for one of three things: an official Rockstar announcement, reporting from a reputable outlet that explains its sourcing, or direct material that can be independently checked.
Until then, avoid treating “75 hours” as a promise when discussing the game with friends, planning content, or deciding what hardware to buy. It is an interesting claim, not usable planning information.
